Wellbutrin, or Bupropion, is a type of antidepressant that is used for the treatment of major depressive disorder, seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and also to help people to give up smoking.
In this post I am going to share some facts and information on Wellbutrin, as well as share my personal experience from being on the drug.
Wellbutrin Side Effects
As with most antidepressant medications, there are several potential side effects to be aware of. These include:
Dry mouth
Headaches
Nausea
Vomiting
Excessive sweating
Aches and pains in joints
Blurred vision
Dizziness
Diarrhea
Increased blood pressure
Suicidal thoughts
Agitation
Restlessness
Increased anxiety
Please tell your doctor if you are experiencing any of these side effects. Often they will go away on their own after continued use of the drug, but it is important your doctor is aware of what you are experiencing so that they can make adjustments if necessary.
How Long Does It Take For Wellbutrin To Work?
As with most antidepressants, Wellbutrin can take approximately 6-8 weeks before it starts to fully work. You may see some improvements to your depression symptoms in as little as 1-2 weeks after you begin taking it.
Signs Wellbutrin Is Working
As mentioned above, you may feel improvements in as little as 1-2 weeks. The signs that Wellbutrin is working can include improvements to sleep, improved appetite and an increase in energy. For some people all they will feel at that early stage is the side effects of the medication. It is important to stay on Wellbutrin for several months to feel its full impact, provided the side effects are bearable.
How Does Wellbutrin Make You Feel?
When it works, Wellbutrin can basically make you feel happy and horny. As it is an antidepressant, it will help to alleviate the symptoms of depression, leaving you feeling better overall. It also can cause improvements to sexual function and libido, which is quite uncommon for an antidepressant.
Wellbutrin For Anxiety
Strangely enough, one of the potential side effects of Wellbutrin is increased anxiety. Despite this, studies have shown that it may help to treat anxiety disorders once the side effects have worn off. One case study has shown that Wellbutrin improved panic and anxiety symptoms in one individual. This is only preliminary research, so more studies are needed to determine if it should be used as an anxiety treatment.
Does Wellbutrin Make You Horny?
The short answer is yes, Wellbutrin can definitely increase libido, sexual function and pleasure.
This is a unique thing about Wellbutrin compared to other antidepressants For this reason, it is often prescribed alongside other antidepressants to help counter the sexual related side effects you may be experiencing from the other medications.
Does Wellbutrin Anger Go Away?
One of the common side effects of Wellbutrin is anger or increased agitation. As with most side effects, this is generally only temporary and will hopefully subside after a few weeks of using the drug.
Wellbutrin And Weight Loss
Wellbutrin has been proven to assist in weight loss for those taking it for a prolonged period. There have been several studies that have shown similar results, which is people who are taking Wellbutrin are more likely to lose weight and body fat while they remain on the drug.
So basically Wellbutrin treats your depression, improves your sex drive and helps you to lose weight. It sounds like a magic pill!
Stopping Wellbutrin
As with all other antidepressants, the safest way to stop taking Wellbutrin is to taper down your dose gradually and slowly. Typically, Wellbutrin is not a difficult drug to stop taking.
Wellbutrin Withdrawal
The good news is that there aren’t usually any significant withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking Wellbutrin.
This doesn’t mean that you won’t experience withdrawal symptoms. How long you have been taking the drug, what dosage you are on and how quickly you stop taking it all contribute to antidepressant discontinuation syndrome. You may experience things like headache, difficulty sleeping, increased anxiety, irritability and muscle pain. If you have been tapered off Wellbutrin slowly, usually these symptoms are mild and go away on their own after a week or two.
Wellbutrin For Addiction – My Experience
Despite having major depressive disorder and being on other antidepressants, I actually took Wellbutrin because I wanted to quit smoking. The fact that it could help to treat my depression was just a bonus.
I can’t remember the dose of Wellbutrin I was on, but it would have been just an average dose. I started taking it and set my quit date for a short time in the future. It worked perfectly, as I was able to stop smoking on the day I planned to and was able to stay off the smokes with minimal cravings.
Unfortunately, a short time later I became suicidal. I was in a bad way and didn’t know why. I had no idea it was a possible side effect of Wellbutrin. Once I worked out that it could be the Wellbutrin causing me to feel suicidal, I stopped taking it and the suicidal thoughts went away fairly quickly.
My doctor had never explained this to me as a potential side effect, however she had given me all of the information about the drug for me to read before taking it. I made the choice not to read it, so I didn’t realize that Wellbutrin could make me suicidal until after taking it. I learned an important lesson there, and now I always read the information before taking a drug and I ask my doctor questions about potential side effects as well.
Although I am a smoker again now, I can say with certainty that Wellbutrin was definitely effective at helping me to quit smoking. Probably the most effective method I have ever come across. It is just a shame that the side effects were too serious for me so I was unable to continue using it.
It is also important to note that just because I experienced these side effects does not mean that everyone will have the same experience. Everyone is different, and different medications affect people in different ways. I will say however, that you should be aware that this happening to you is a possibility, so monitor your own symptoms and talk to your doctor about any side effects that you may be feeling.
Why I No Longer Need Antidepressants
Wellbutrin is just one of many antidepressants that I have been on. And I do mean many. Probably somewhere close to 20 different medications in over 10 years of fighting depression. I didn’t have a great deal of success with any of these medications, so I started looking into alternative options.
I tried many different things and what I learned was that there were numerous ways to treat depression without meds. It was just a matter of finding one that suited me and could give me success.
I finally found the solution when I came across a course called Destroy Depression. Not the most creative of names, but from reading their website it sounded like the solution I was after. The course comes with a 60 day money back guarantee, so I had nothing to lose by trying it and there was no chance of experiencing side effects. It was a total win win situation.
I am happy to say that after reading the course and applying the methods that it teaches, my depression has reduced massively. I still have bad days here and there, but I went from nearly every day being a bad day. Also, the severity of my down days is much less than what it used to be. I no longer take any antidepressants for my depression and haven’t needed to be on any since I tried this course.
It is one of the few products that I recommend and promote on my website, because I don’t believe in promoting garbage products just to make a dollar. I only promote products that I have tried and that have worked for me. There is no reason why this product cannot work for everyone who is suffering from depression, and because it comes with a 100% money back guarantee for 60 days there is nothing to lose by trying it. I am fairly sure that if you just apply the methods that it teaches that you will never need to use the money back guarantee, but it is comforting to know that it is there.
